Paul Matthews is a mild-mannered biology professor who starts inexplicably appearing in the dreams of people around the world, typically as a reserved and emotionless bystander within uncanny and amusing events. Paul's journalist ex-girlfriend Claire spots him with his wife Janet and tells him that he was appearing in her dreams. Claire asks to write about these occurrences and Paul agrees. She links his picture and Facebook profile in the article, leading to hundreds of people who had never met Paul recognizing him as the figure from their dreams. While Paul revels in the attention and media coverage this brings, he is frustrated by his depiction in the dreams as passive and uninteresting. Janet asks Paul why he isn't appearing in her dreams and tells him that she would want to dream of him rescuing her while wearing an old Halloween costume inspired by an oversized suit that Talking Heads frontman David Byrne often wore during concerts.
After a mentally ill person sees Paul in his dreams, he breaks into his house and tries to kill him, prompting Paul to sign with a PR firm. Trent, a member of the firm, attempts to sell Paul on becoming a Sprite spokesman to no avail as Paul is more interested in using the firm to get his book proposal to a publisher. An assistant at the company admits to Paul that she has had erotic dreams about him and they attempt to reenact one despite Paul being married, but he prematurely ejaculates and leaves humiliated. Later, Paul is enraged to learn that a former colleague has published a paper on the subject he was thinking of writing his book about.
Paul's presence in the dreams suddenly becomes actively violent and hateful. Paul is put on leave from teaching after students refuse to enroll in his classes. Bystanders begin to notice Paul in public and are bothered by his presence, resulting in a brawl in a diner. Janet's own career begins to be affected by Paul's reputation, and she asks him to consider issuing a public apology; he refuses and yells at her. Upon having a nightmare where he is hunted and killed by himself with a crossbow, Paul releases a self-pitying apology video, and a humiliated Janet makes him leave the house. Paul tries to force his way into his younger daughter's school play that he was asked to not attend, only to accidentally injure a teacher in the process and be removed by other attendees.
Sometime later, the dreams have stopped, and dream-traveling technology has been invented in light of the discovery of a shared dream subconsciousness, primarily to be used for advertising. With Janet having separated from Paul and dating her co-worker, Paul goes on a mediocre tour in France to sell his autobiography Dream Scenario, which has been retitled I Am Your Nightmare without his consent. Paul later uses the dream-travel technology to venture into one of Janet's dreams and save her life while wearing the David Byrne suit costume. Paul wishes the dream to be real before floating away as Janet awakens.
Ranvijay "Vijay" Singh is the son of Balbir Singh, a Delhi-based business magnate who heads the generational steel company called "Swastik Steels". He has adored his father since childhood, but Balbir neglects him due to his busy schedule. After an incident where Vijay ambushes his sister's bullies with an AK-47, Balbir sends him away to a boarding school in the United States. Vijay returns after completing his education and convinces his former schoolmate Geetanjali, whom he has always loved, to break off her engagement and choose him.
During Balbir's 60th birthday, Vijay argues with his sister's husband Varun and is kicked out of the house. He breaks off contact with his family, marries Geetanjali, and moves to the United States, where the couple have two children. Eight years later, he learns that his father was shot by unidentified assailants, prompting him to return to India to find the person responsible. He rounds up his cousins from his native village in Punjab to help in his mission and sets up a doppelgänger named Kailash for Balbir. Kailash is killed by Asrar Haque's team as they mistake him to be Balbir.
Vijay discovers that Varun was involved in the assassination attempt and kills him during a meeting. He then goes to a hotel to meet an arms dealer, but Asrar's team arrives in droves to kill him. After a lengthy battle, he defeats them, but sustains brutal injuries and goes into a coma. Upon waking two weeks later and undergoing a heart transplant, Vijay learns that his heart donor was the fiancé of a woman named Zoya. Vijay begins an affair with Zoya, who soon falls for him. Zoya reveals that she was actually sent by Asrar's brother Abrar Haque.
Abrar had sent Zoya to honey trap Vijay in order to kidnap and replace him with a doppelgänger who would massacre his family. Vijay reveals that he knew this all along and simply wanted to discover the identity of the actual perpetrator. He learns from his grandfather Rajdheer that Abrar and his brothers are part of Vijay's family; they are the grandsons of Rajdheer's younger brother Shamsher Singh, making Vijay their cousin. Abrar planned the attempt on Balbir's life to avenge his own father Azim Haque, who was denied a share of their property.
This led to Shamsher committing suicide in front of Abrar, which traumatized him and rendered him mute. Vijay and his cousins barge into Abrar's house in Scotland to kill him, but learn that Abrar has escaped with his brother Abid in their private jet. They stop the flight and Vijay and Abrar engage in a brutal fight that ends with Vijay killing Abrar. During the family Diwali celebration, Balbir reveals that he has terminal cancer and has realised his failures as a father. Balbir finally reconciles with Vijay, who rejoices in attaining his love after many years.
In the post-credits scene, Aziz, revealed to be another one of Abrar's brothers, has successfully undergone plastic surgery to become Vijay's doppelgänger and Zoya is now pregnant, though unsure if the baby is Aziz's or Vijay's. Aziz kills two of Vijay's cousins and sets out with Abid to exact vengeance on Vijay for his brothers' deaths.
Unable to pay the exorbitant fees imposed on him by the contract, Wonka is captured and starts to work in a launderette alongside five other captives for Mrs. Scrubitt; including Noodle. Learning of a "Chocolate Cartel" plot involving the rival chocolatiers, Wonka makes Scrubitt and Bleacher fall in love and facilitates his escape to sell chocolate with the help of Noodle, to whom he promises a lifetime supply of chocolates. The Cartel exploits the Chief of Police's weakness for chocolate to force Wonka to leave town while Wonka tells Noodle that his affinity for chocolate stems from his late mother, who gave him one last chocolate bar. Wonka then discerns the theft of his chocolates by an enigmatic orange man who steals them for years. To produce his signature chocolate, Wonka, accompanied by Noodle, travels to the local zoo, milking Abigail the giraffe. Together with a group of captives, they embark on selling chocolates to alleviate their debts while using the underground to evade Scrubitt and the Chief. Unmasking an Oompa Loompa named Lofty as the thief, Wonka discovers that the Oompa Loompa seeks retribution for the cacao beans Wonka took years ago under Lofty's watch. Lofty ingeniously dupes Wonka, facilitating his escape.
Using the funds raised from selling chocolates, the group of captives open Wonka's dream chocolate store. The Chief and the Chocolate Cartel, informed of Wonka's endeavors and now unable to arrest him since he has a legitimate shop, denounce him to Scrubitt. Infusing his chocolates with Yeti sweat, Scrubitt incites chaos among the customers, leading to the destruction of Wonka's store. Facing adversity, Wonka reluctantly agrees to the Cartel's offer to leave town by ship to pay off everyone's debts. Everyone is released from the launderette except Noodle; Cartel member Slugworth pays Scrubbit to keep her there indefinitely. Before jumping off the dynamited ship with Lofty, Wonka has a conversation with him during which he realizes that Noodle is Slugworth's niece. Noodle, who was reported dead to her birth mother Dorothy, was sold by Slugworth to Scrubitt in order to eliminate her claim to the family fortune. After rescuing Noodle with the help of the group, they devise a strategy to obtain the Cartel's incriminating account book.
Taking advantage of Abigail's distraction, Wonka and Noodle infiltrate the Cartel's base, where they are confronted by the Cartel and nearly drowned in chocolate. Through strategic use of hoverchocs, Wonka enables Lofty to rescue them and unveils the Cartel's misdeeds. Exposing their actions to the authorities and the public, they release the Cartel's chocolate reserve through a fountain, laced with Wonka's unique ingredients, ruining the Cartel's enterprise. The Cartel, levitated uncontrollably by the hoverchocs, meets their downfall, and the police arrests their Chief. The crowd revels in tasting Wonka's chocolate fountain, and Wonka unwraps his mother's chocolate bar, discovering a Golden Ticket with a message that says chocolate is best shared. Sharing his mother's chocolate with friends, Wonka aids Noodle in reuniting with her mother, settles his debt with Lofty, and, with Lofty, acquires an abandoned castle to commence building a new factory.
In an epilogue, Scrubitt and Bleacher are arrested after their attempt to eliminate evidence of sabotaging Wonka's shop backfires by drinking the mixtures, which disfigures them.
Dan Morgan is a gifted car salesman living a quiet life in the suburbs of Buffalo, New York with his wife Jessica and their three kids Nina, Kyle, and Max.
One day, Dan is suddenly attacked. After the attack, Dan contacts his former associate, Augie, to find out why he was attacked and Augie suggests it is Dan's former employer McCaffrey, and advises him to disappear just to be safe. Dan orders a new set of identity documents for him and his family. Dan retrieves his kids from school and picks Jessica up from work, telling her they're taking a spontaneous road trip to Las Vegas.
As they're leaving town, Dan realized that they're being followed and deduces that their family minivan has a tracker planted on it. He stops at his car dealership and uses one of the service bays to find and remove the device from the undercarriage.
Meanwhile, McCaffrey and his team go through the Morgans' home but can't find any indication where they're headed as Dan discarded everyone's cell phones to avoid being traced. He drives through the night until they reach Iowa City. Excited, Nina begs them to check out the Southern Iowa University because she hopes to follow her boyfriend Trevor there rather than pursue her original goal of attending Stanford.
During a campus tour, Dan notices a German man on his phone, and believes he works for McCaffrey, though he realizes he's mistaken when they're attacked by another of McCaffrey's henchmen, battling it out in one of the chemistry labs before incapacitating the man and rejoining his family on the tour. Before leaving campus, Nina manages to find Trevor's dorm only to learn he's cheating on her with another girl. When she finds out that Trevor is cheating on her, Dan teaches her some martial arts moves, which she uses on the former.
As they head to Vegas, Dan grows closer to his family. They arrive in Las Vegas, where Dan plans to tell Jessica the truth about his past over a romantic dinner. While they leave the kids to babysit Max in their penthouse suite, the kids take off with Max to walk to the Strip. When Dan and Jessica head back to their suite to check on the kids, they are attacked by McCaffrey's team. Dan quickly dispatches them, shocking Jessica. Revealing his name to be Sean, he finally comes clean to his family, who are outraged. Sean nevertheless gives them their new passports and IDs, telling them that their lives in Buffalo are over. The next morning, Jessica's friend, Gwen, arrives in a private jet to fly them home to Buffalo.
On the plane, Gwen reveals she works for McCaffrey and hands Jessica and the kids over to him. He takes them hostage, and threatens to kill them unless Sean accepts his offer. He relents, and Jessica and the kids are taken back to the airport to leave for Buffalo. Sean manages to escape and McCaffrey calls his army into the lobby of the hotel to recapture him. Sean engages the mercenaries while Jessica and the kids fight Gwen, culminating in Jessica using a piece of broken bamboo as a javelin to impale Gwen through the chest. Meanwhile, Sean knocks McCaffrey out.
Some time later, the Morgans have returned to their lives in Buffalo; Sean / Dan is now running his own security firm using his skillset to advise clients how to better defend against attacks while Jessica coaches high school track and field.
Returning home, they load up into a rented RV embarking on a cross-country roadtrip to drop Nina off at Stanford.
